WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
We started our training program in different rooms at our regional office and/or one of our homes. The training program moved to the United Way building on the second floor in 2004 with two offices and three training rooms.
After about a year, we grew to three offices and six training rooms. We started training a very small calendar of programs. Now we have, as you can see, a very full calendar and we are still growing. Plus, we travel to our other sites to train due to how widespread our programs have become.
We train the following:
- CPR/Standard First Aid
- Bloodborne Pathogens/ Seizure First Aid
- Agency Orientaion/HIPPA/Corporate Compliance
- Client Rights
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- World of Autism
- Louder Than Words - A Class on nonverbal clients
- Enhancing Verbal Skills - trains staff to use verbal intervention techniques
- Medication Orientation for New Staff
- Medication Administration
- Core A
- Core B
- Defensive Driving (RTAP)
- Home Management
- Sign Language
ABOUT OUR TRAINERS
We have two full-time trainers who are certified to train all classes at the center daily. We have three trainers from other programs at the regional office who are certified to train CPR/Standard First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Seizure First Aid. Other classes are taught on an as-needed basis. Additionally, we have an on-site trainer at our Sandstone and Jackson locations.
We have four Crisis Prevention - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention trainers. Two are master level with 544+ training hours. (It normally takes 5 years to become master level)! Two are at senior level with 200+ hours.
We have a part time Registered Nurse who trains our Core A, Core B, and Medication Orientation for new staff and Medication Administration for annual training for our seasoned staff.
On April 6, 2007 we joined the Department of Labor to become a registered Apprenticeship Program for our direct care staff to gain certification for Client Service Specialist with approximately 180 hours of training and 2000 working hours.
2008 marks new and exciting changes for us here at the DSI Training Center. Our online training and certification program has been implemented, which means that you can take your annual training online, any time, from anywhere! So… stay right where you are and click around!
